Vinaya Texts, Part III: The Kullavagga IV-XII (Sacred Books of the East, Vol. 20) AULLAVAGGA. / V, 29, I. / OTLLAVAGGA. / KULLAVAGGA.; lines 7041-7142 confidence: high
The bhikkhus say that monks of differing name, lineage, birth, and family corrupt the word of the Buddhas by repeating it in their own dialect, and they ask to put the word into Sanskrit verse.
The passage rejects putting the word of the Buddhas into Sanskrit verse and explicitly permits bhikkhus to learn it each in his own dialect.
