The North-West Amazons: Notes of Some Months Spent Among Cannibal Tribes CHAPTER XIV / CHAPTER XV / CHAPTER XVI / CHAPTER XVII; lines 7661-7698 confidence: high
Casement reports a large wood ibis descending among Witoto and Muenane at Occidente; a Muenane wants to shoot it and says it must have been sent by the Karahone enemy to bring disaster, but is persuaded not to harm it.
The wild turkey is regarded by the Okaina as a friendly notifier of approaching visitors, while the wood ibis is interpreted by a Muenane as possibly enemy-sent to bring disaster.
