Sumedha rejoices; the multitudes call him an embryo Buddha and compare future attainment under him to crossing a river at a lower ford; Dīpankara, Arhats, angels, and men make offerings or salutations and depart.

The multitudes say that if they fail to attain under Dīpankara, they hope to stand before Sumedha when he becomes Buddha, using the image of crossing a river at a lower ford.
