As a young lapidary in Roum, Hasan goes with a vizier to a plain with a vast tent whose ropes are silk and stakes gold; soldiers, learned men, old men, maidens carrying precious stones, and finally the sultan and vizier move around or into it.
The courtly groups annually circle the tent containing the royal child's tomb and repeat laments about their inability to save him.
