Russian Fairy Tales: A Choice Collection of Muscovite Folk-lore MAGIC AND WITCHCRAFT. / FOOTNOTES: / CHAPTER V. / GHOST STORIES.; lines 13717-13791 confidence: high
Kashoube belief: the Vieszcy wakes in the grave, gnaws hands and feet, causes relations and neighbors to die, may rise at midnight to kill cattle or ring a deathly bell, and usually sucks blood from sleepers, leaving a small wound over the heart.
The Kashoube Vieszcy gnaws its own hands and feet while relatives and neighbors die, and the Lusatian Wend corpse chewing its shroud or sucking its breast foretells kin deaths.
